Ketamine, a medication that rapidly and effectively reduce suicidal thoughts

Researchers at the university of Columbia Medical Center, New York, has discovered Ketamine, an effective  medication that could immediately and effectively reduce suicide thoughts in people with depression.


80 adults who had depression and suicidal thoughts were selected and given one or two random treatments, one group was given a low dose of Ketamine while the other group was given a low dose of Midazolam, a sedative.

The presence of suicidal thoughts was checked in each participant 24 hours after administration of each drug using  Scale of Suicide Ideation (SSL).

It was found that both group showed a significant  drop in suicidal thoughts, although it was higher in patient that were given Ketamine treatment.

The investigation showed that 55 percent of subject treated with Ketamine experienced a 50% reduction in the level of suicidal thought wheres the  group given Midazolam showed 30% decrease only.

The finding reports that the effect of the anesthetic lasted up to 6weeks and patient showed remarkable improvements in mood, depression and fatigue compare to Midazolam.
